Parental Relocations
The State of California dictates which procedures must be followed when a parent is attempting to move or, conversely, to block the other parent’s move.
Can Parents Relocate After Divorce?
Yes, and like most things regarding children and family law, there’s a strict process and a procedure to follow.
The most common way to obtain this authorization is through a relocation hearing. If you oppose your ex wanting to relocate with the kids, or vice versa, you’ll likely wind up in court.
If you hope to stop a relocation, you have to show that the child's current living situation is the best possible.
